GT ace Benjamin Mazatis joins NXT Gen Cup at Norisring
GT ace Benjamin Mazatis is going to join the NXT Gen Cup season opener at the Norisring street circuit this weekend.
"It's going to be really exciting to drive something completely new and electric like the NXT Gen Cup is for me and especially to do it at the iconic Norisring circuit, I'm really excited," said Benjamin Mazatis.
The 26-year-old has plenty of experience from GT racing, most recently finishing fifth in the 2023 24H Series in Dubai and finished third overall in the Pro-Am Cup of the 2018 GT4 Central European Cup.
The German driver is however new to electric race cars.
"While I have driven single seaters, touring cars and GT cars, electric race cars are new to me and I'm looking forward to gain that experience," said Benjamin Mazatis.
"I always race for the top positions, but I am of course humble ahead of my debut this weekend as I will meet drivers with a lot more experience of the LRT NXT1 race car. As always I will work methodically and hard together with the NXT Gen Cup engineers and then try to surprise! It’s without a doubt a huge challenge, but at the same time a really exciting one. I can’t wait to go racing!”
NXT Gen Cup, the world’s first electric junior touring car cup, will race together with the DTM, Europe’s premier and best-known racing series, this year for 12 intense races across four race weekends from July to October.
