Lukas Stiefelhagen gears up for full NXT Gen Cup season
Dutch former karting champion Lukas Stiefelhagen will step up to a full NXT Gen Cup season this year following his successful debut last year, in cooperation with his main partners LKQ and OG Clean Fuels.
"I'm thrilled to be back in NXT Gen Cup and do it properly this time with a full season, my single race weekend last year really left me with a taste for more," said Lukas Stiefelhagen.
The 16-year-old shocked the NXT Gen Cup field last year by claiming pole position and a top five finish at Ring Knutstorp, despite never having raced at the challenging Swedish circuit before or driven the 100% electric LRT NXT1 race car.
2024 means an even bigger challenge for the former Dutch 4-stroke karting champion, who will tackle international street circuits like Monaco and London in the competitive NXT Gen Cup field.
"It's definitely a step up on all levels, but it's a challenge that spurs me on together with the many sponsors that support me," said Lukas Stiefelhagen.
"I'm humble ahead of the task, my primary objective is to develop as a driver, gain experience in electric racing on international circuits, and hopefully we can challenge for some strong results as the season progresses."
The Dutch junior racer will hit the track together with the NXT Gen Cup during the season opener at Norisring together with the DTM on July 6-7.
