Maxim KunHee van den Doel makes electric racing debut in NXT Gen Cup
Maxim KunHee van den Doel will make his electric racing debut in the 2024 NXT Gen Cup season.
"I'm really excited to make my debut in NXT Gen Cup and I'm looking forward to broadening my motorsports experiences and accelerate my international racing career. It’s an electrifying feeling to be able to race together in such a inclusive and competitive championship on tracks like Monaco, Hockenheim and the Norisring,” said Maxim KunHee van den Doel.
The half Korean and half Dutch racer got his first taste of the all-electric LRT NXT1 race car during the official pre-season test at Misano last week – finishing runner-up in the wet session and fourth overall.
"My racing mission in Misano was to develop my electric race craft and the second I stepped into the LRT NXT1 race car, I felt right at home," said Maxim KunHee van den Doel
"It was great to work together with the NXT Gen Cup engineers and share data with the other drivers during the test. My goal is to progress each race this year and hopefully finish as the best rookie."
Maxim KunHee van den Doel made his racing debut last year, becoming Dutch Super Lap champion and became the youngest driver on the podium ever in the Benelux Ford Fiesta Sprint Cup.
The Dutchman also made a victorious Mazda MX-5 Cup Netherlands debut, becoming the first driver to win on debut in the history of the cup. Previously Maxim has raced karts in China, South Korea, Italy, Germany, UK and Belgium.
"A warm welcome to Maxim who performed really well during his first test with us, showing strong pace right from the start. It will be really interesting to see how he will perform this season, further adding to the competitiveness of this year's championship," said Fredrik Lestrup, NXT Gen Cup founder.
Next up for Maxim van den Doel and the NXT Gen Cup field is the Misano season opener together with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on April 13-14.
