NXT Gen Cup heads to Germany with ADAC Racing Weekend at Oschersleben

NXT Gen Cup heads outside of Sweden for the first time this weekend, racing with the ADAC Racing Weekend in Germany. The strong field of junior talents will tackle the challenging Oschersleben circuit in their 100% electric LRT NXT1 race cars for race weekend two of 2023.

"The Falkenberg world premiere exceeded our expectations with fantastic electric junior racing where our all-new LRT NXT1 race cars performed according to plan," said Fredrik Lestrup, founder of NXT Gen Cup.

"We are now heading from the fast and short Falkenberg circuit to a big international circuit like Oschersleben which will put our drivers and cars to a completely different challenge. And this is what NXT Gen Cup is all about, providing our junior talents with a thorough base of experience for their future professional racing careers."

The first race weekend saw two thrilling races where the lead changed hands several times and plenty of close door-to-door racing.

Swedish ace Elias Adestam wrote history to become the first-ever NXT Gen Cup winner in Race 1 while Ellis Spiezia struck back in Race 2 to win and claim the championship.

The American racer heads the standings on 47 points and is trailed by Linus Granfors, who drove two solid races with a second and fourth place finish, just four points behind.

Enzo Hallman, who performed a daring move in the first Falkenberg race from fourth to first, is fourth overall, eight points from the lead.

Elias Adestam, who claimed pole and the first win, is fifth after receiving a post-race penalty in Race 2 for an unsafe re-entry to the track, trailing points leader Ellis Spiezia by 11 points.

Best of the female drivers was Siri Hökfelt who finished ninth in the first race and eighth in the second race, currently sharing seventh place in the championship standings with Theo Jernberg on 17 points.

The young talents races the 100% electric LRT NXT1 race cars in NXT Gen Cup, cars which are based on the MINI Cooper SE road car model – featuring a 30kWh battery and 230hp with push-to-pass functionality.

The cars, which run on Hankook Ventus TD tyres, are charged in-between track sessions by ABB E-mobility, the official charging partner to NXT Gen Cup.

The NXT Gen Cup field is headed by the MINI Electric Pacesetter throughout the 2023 season, which made its debut as the official Safety Car for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The NXT Gen Cup action in Germany starts already on Friday with testing and qualifying, followed by two races on Saturday which are broadcast LIVE on the NXT Gen Cup YouTube channel.
