NXT Gen Cup receives official Swedish Junior Title status from SBF
The Swedish Motorsport Federation (SBF) has granted NXT Gen Cup the official Swedish Junior Title status for its inaugural season in 2023.
"The groundbreaking and innovative NXT Gen Cup is just right for the development and growth of Swedish junior racing and we are delighted to start our cooperation with them ahead of 2023," said Anna Nordkvist, managing director of SBF.
”The entire world is moving to electrification and this is obviously including motorsport on all levels, including junior racing. We have no doubt that the juniors will get a solid platform for their future careers via NXT Gen Cup.”
NXT Gen Cup will launch in Sweden 2023 as the world's first fully electric junior touring championship and the champion will be crowned the official Swedish Junior Champion.
"The official Swedish junior title is a key part to NXT Gen Cup as it adds attention, prestige and the efforts of the Swedish Motorsport Federation to our joint effort of creating a viable and sustainable racing career platform for junior drivers," said Fredrik Lestrup, co-founder of NXT Gen Cup.
The NXT Gen Cup will start in 2023 and run alongside the all-electric STCC, with a finalised calendar to be revealed soon.
The junior drivers will get to race the LRT NXT1 race car in an arrive-and-drive setup, read more here.
The race car is based on the electric MINI Cooper SE road car that has been purpose-built for racing by Lestrup Racing Team, the founders of NXT Gen Cup.
The car features a 30kWh battery with an electric, liquid cooled motor which produces 230hp pending circuit - including push-to-pass functionality. The front-wheel drive cars can run 20-minute races at full pace thanks to comprehensive development by NXT Gen Cup in a wide array of conditions.
