Formula racer Theo Wieder makes NXT Gen Cup debut at the Hockenheim finale
20-year-old German Theo Wieder will make his electric, as well as touring car, debut as he joins the 17-car field for the NXT Gen Cup season finale at the Hockenheimring DTM weekend.
“I remember being at Hockenheim watching DTM with my father a few years ago, and now I will be racing along the DTM as a part of this future series. It feels amazing. I haven't been racing this year, so the last races of the season will be the first for me,” said Theo Wieder.
Starting his racing career in 2022, the German driver began competing in Formula Campus cars in the Czech Republic, and made two Formula 4 appearances in 2023.
Theo Wieder is now collaborating with Porsche Carrera Cup team ID Racing as he continues to pursue a professional racing career.
“Of course, I always want to win, but I have to be realistic. It’s my first time in a touring car and my first time on this track, so my goal is to have fun and learn as much as possible,” said Theo Wieder.
Theo Wieder exemplifies the NXT Gen Cup’s role as a vital stepping stone for young motorsport talents looking to break into the racing world.
“We’ve been in discussions with Theo for some time, and he’s worked hard to secure the budget, doing an excellent job on the commercial side. We now look forward to welcoming him to the NXT Gen Cup and seeing him succeed on the track,” said Fredrik Lestrup, founder of NXT Gen Cup.
The NXT Gen Cup races together with the DTM - Europe’s premier and best-known racing series - at the Hockenheimring finale weekend and all races are broadcast LIVE on YouTube.
