Linus Granfors takes maiden NXT Gen Cup pole in Nürburgring qualifying

Title contender Linus Granfors claimed his maiden NXT Gen Cup pole position, as the Swede set the pace during qualifying at the legendary Formula 1 track Nürburgring in Germany where the championship runds along with DTM.

The 15-year-old set his fastest time already on lap three in the 20-minute qualifying session, ultimately securing his first-ever pole position in the 100% electric junior championship.

”It feels great to finally take my first pole position. It was close in Oschersleben, but this time we got it. I don’t have a plan for tomorrow yet, as I don’t know if in will be wet or dry. I have to talk to my engineer and see what we can come up with,” said Linus Granfors.

Enzo Hallman bounced back from a challenging round at Oschersleben last weekend, to start second in tomorrow’s first race. The former Swedish karting champion finishing just 0.105 seconds behind Granfors.

”It is quite a challenging track, but I felt like I did a good lap with just a small mistake in turn one. Of course, that ended with second place. I have not driven in the wet, not with this or any other car, so I hope for a dry race tomorrow. The plan is to try to overtake Linus into turn one, ” said Enzo Hallman.

Alexzander Kristiansson continued his fine form from last week, where he claimed a podium finish. Kristiansson was third fastest in qualifying.

”I am really impressed with my driving, I have never been to this track before as several others have. To be up there in the front is really exciting. I am looking forward to tomorrow and hope there will be much people watching the races and try to get a podium,” said Alexzander Kristiansson.

Elias Adestam, who sits second in the drivers’ standings, qualified in fourth, as only 27 hundreds of a second separated the top four.

Championship leader Ellis Spiezia had a tough qualifying at Nürburgring as the American driver finished seventh.

Siri Hökfelt finished the qualifying as the fastest female driver in 12th, less than 0.6 seconds ahead of championship newcomer Benet Boer in 14th.

Two NXT Gen Cup races are scheduled for tomorrow at the Nürburgring, marking the first time an all-electric racing series will compete during a DTM weekend. Race 1 starts at 09:45 CEST – broadcast LIVE on YouTube!
