NXT Gen Cup announces calendar for inaugural 2023 season

The calendar for the 100% electric 2023 NXT Gen Cup season is here, featuring a total of six race weekends alongside the all-electric Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) on the best circuits Sweden has to offer.

“We’ve got an intense schedule for our ground-breaking first NXT Gen Cup season on a strong selection of circuits which will provide our young talents a wide array of challenges and fantastic racing,” said Fredrik Lestrup, co-founder of NXT Gen Cup.

As part of the close co-operation with the main class STCC, the NXT Gen Cup champion will not only be crowned the official Swedish Junior Champion, but also receive financial support to race in the 2024 STCC season.

We are delighted join forces with the STCC for the historic 2023 season when Sweden will become the world’s first country to offer a fully electric touring car career ladder,” said Fredrik Lestrup.

“The entire world is electrifying at a rapid pace and the time is now to act for motorsport as well. We are together with the STCC securing a relevant career ladder for young talents in the world of electrified motorsport, securing a strong regrowth of Scandinavian motorsport.”

The season will start on Sweden’s fastest circuit Falkenberg in July, before moving on to the longest circuit in Scandinavia; Skellefteå, at the beginning of August.

Gelleråsen Arena will host the third round later that month, while the Helsingborg city race will feature as a show event for the inaugural NXT Gen Cup season.

“We will be on site with all of our drivers and a selection of cars to perform demonstration runs and showcase NXT Gen Cup during the fantastic Helsingborg city race event. We are currently evaluating the options to include it as a championship round for 2024,” said Fredrik Lestrup.

Ring Knutstorp in the south of Sweden will host the fourth round before heading to Mantorp Park for the penultimate round at the end of September.

The NXT Gen Cup season finale will be held outside of the STCC calendar, to be revealed in due course.

An official pre-season test will be held at Gelleråsen Arena on June 7-8, followed by a second official test at the same circuit on July 25th.
