17-year-old Theo Jernberg joins first NXT Gen Cup season

Theo Jernberg will join the inaugural NXT Gen Cup season in 2023, a 17-year-old with a background of endurance racing as well as sim racing.

"I'm really excited to become part of the electric racing future with NXT Gen Cup which feels like a solid platform for me to evolve my career," said Theo Jernberg.

The Swede made his racing debut at the age of 14 and has driven selected endurance races in Sweden since then.

"This will all be about learning for me and to create the necessary conditions for my long-term ambitions which is to make it to championships such as the STCC or DTM," said Theo Jernberg.

"From what I can tell, the LRT NXT1 race car seems really exciting and I am really keen to get behind the wheel of the car for the first time in preparations for 2023."

NXT Gen Cup will start in 2023 and run alongside the all-electric STCC.

The LRT NXT1 race car is based on the electric MINI Cooper SE road car that has been purpose-built for racing by Lestrup Racing Team, the founders of NXT Gen Cup.

The car features a 30kWh battery with an electric, liquid cooled motor which produces 230hp pending circuit - including push-to-pass functionality. The front-wheel drive cars can run 20-minute races at full pace thanks to comprehensive development by NXT Gen Cup in a wide array of conditions.

Junior drivers can apply interest to take part in the 2023 NXT Gen Cup here.
