CrossCar junior champion Alex Gustafsson switches to NXT Gen Cup

CrossCar junior champion Alex Gustafsson will switch to circuit racing for 2023 as he joins NXT Gen Cup, the world's first fully electric junior touring car championship.

"I'm super excited to switch to racing and especially NXT Gen Cup, it's going to be a tough but awesome switch," said Alex Gustafsson.

The 16-year-old Swede claimed the RallyX CrossCar Junior title in 2020 and finished as vice champion in the CrossCar Junior category of the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games.

"We've had a couple of really successful CrossCar seasons and now I'm definitely ready for the next challenge in the NXT Gen Cup," said Alex Gustafsson, who will receive support from JC Raceteknik throughout the 2023 season.

"The two categories are obviously wildly different, but I think I will have a lot of use of my experience in terms of car control. It won't be easy to wrap my head around electric, front-wheel driven NXT Gen Cup cars, but I'm confident that I can adapt quickly. I can't wait for the season to start!"

Alex Gustafsson, who is part of the Swedish Motorsport Federation's junior team, has taken part in NXT Gen Cup's educational programme during the winter, training with Formula 1 performance coach Pyry Salmela of ICANIWILL among other activites.

NXT Gen Cup will run alongside the all-electric Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) in 2023 to crown the official Swedish Junior champion in cooperation with the Swedish Motorsport Federation (SBF). Learn more here!
