Laurenz Rühl retains his seat in NXT Gen Cup for 2025
German racer Laurenz Rühl is set to return to the 100% electric NXT Gen Cup for his second season.
Having started his career as a sim racer, the now 18-year-old German made his real-world racing debut in the Dutch Mazda MX-5 Cup in 2023, finishing sixth in the junior category. That experience led him to take the next step into NXT Gen Cup, where he joined the highly competitive grid for the 2024 season.
After a season of learning and development, Rühl has now decided to return to the fully electric touring car championship in 2025, aiming to build on his performances and fight at the top of the standings.
“I really enjoy the competitive nature of NXT Gen Cup. Many championships talk about an equal playing field, but here, it truly is. My goal for this season is to secure a few podiums, using everything I learned last year to take the next step. I believe I can prove myself as a top driver in 2025,” said Laurenz Rühl.
The talented German will join the NXT Gen Cup field for the 2025 season opener at Oschersleben on 25–27 April.
“We are excited to welcome Laurenz back to NXT Gen Cup for a second consecutive season. Last year was all about adapting to this new form of racing, and considering that, we were very impressed with how he developed throughout the season. This year, we firmly believe Laurenz will return even stronger, in a car and on racetracks he now knows,” said Fredrik Lestrup, NXT Gen Cup founder.
NXT Gen Cup, the world’s first electric junior touring car cup, will once again race alongside DTM—Europe’s premier and best-known racing series—over four race weekends from April to August.
