NXT Gen Cup lowers minimum age to 14 for 2025
The minimum age for entering NXT Gen Cup, the world’s first electric junior touring car cup, has been lowered to the year drivers turn 15 (born in 2010 and later) for the 2025 season following approval from the German Motorsport Federation (DMSB).
“We are delighted to together with DMSB, ADAC and DTM offer young drivers the possibility to take their first step into racing early in their career, providing them an even better opportunity to start a thriving career in professional motorsport,” said Fredrik Lestrup, founder of NXT Gen Cup.
The first season of NXT Gen Cup in 2023, which was held in Sweden, had the year drivers turn 14 as the minimum age while the first international season of the championship in 2024 had the year drivers turn 15 as the minimum.
“Our setup for minimum age during our first season in Sweden worked really well in cooperation with the Swedish Motorsport Federation (SBF),” said Fredrik Lestrup.
“We look forward to welcoming the young talents for the third season of NXT Gen Cup where they will get to closely work with our team of engineers, mechanics and experts to get a thorough education of junior racing.”
NXT Gen Cup will feature 12 intense races in 2025 across four race weekends in Germany from April to August as the junior championship starts its ground-breaking third season, including an official two-day pre-season test at Gelleråsen Arena, Sweden, in April.

About DTM
DTM is Europe’s premier and best-known racing series and is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2024. As one of the most competitive racing series, DTM features seven prestigious brands in its anniversary season. The DTM has a German core, but a strong international fan base. Races are broadcasted live in 150 territories. The series is also a leader in sustainable motorsport. For the second season, all cars are powered by a sustainable fuel made of 50% renewable components. Not only the cars racing in DTM are in the centre of sustainable projects. For the events itself the ADAC as promoter of the DTM offers innovations like an initiative to reduce plastic waste and a digital carpool solution, which has been recognised and awarded by the FIA.
